It seemed quite risky at first, as I am personally not very into drama and performing, but maybe that was the reason I opted for it, to do and try new things.
It started on September 18th,
2016 and lasted 8 days. The place was Tochni, a little village in Cyprus, where
we could enjoy the countryside and the beach alike.
We had sessions in the morning and
in the afternoon, with a 2-hour break to have lunch. They were mainly devoted
to develop drama methods to prevent violence, we also had lectures giving
background to the methods used, we shared worrying case stories from the school
environments and we tried to discuss on them and find solutions, and we had the
opportunity to visit a local school, too.
The group was made up by 12
participants and 4 teachers, coming from 9 different countries. At the end of
the course, we learnt drama methods to prevent violence, we learnt to perform
and the importance of self-expression, we improved English communication and
international cooperation skills, we learnt how to create a positive atmosphere
in the classroom and of course we had the chance to know a bit more about the
Cypriot culture and history.
In all, I reckon it was one of the
most interesting learning activities I have taken part in and I realised drama
is a good way to work with problems at school in a funny and educative way.
